MKBS (Milton Keynes Bereavement Service) fights off closure threat

The Milton Keynes Bereavement Service (MKBS) has been named charity of the year by Sainsbury’s in Central Milton Keynes. Money raised by the store is expected to keep the service running for at least another 12 months, after its annual £7,000 funding from Milton Keynes Council was cut.

The service was set up in 1979 to help the community through bereavements, with volunteers only paid expenses for their valuable hard work.
But each year, the MKBS had to apply for grant aid from the council, which accounts for 75 per cent of its yearly funding.
The council’s withdrawal meant the service would have had to close in 2012 had Sainsbury’s not stepped in.

Jeni Pratt of MKBS said “We’re really excited and would like to thank everyone in the community who voted for us.”

Farewell and thanks to Bridget!

Bridget Mattingly retired from her post of CCC Administrator on 31st August this year. Bridget came to the CCC as a welcomer many years ago but gradually increased her commitment by helping with administrative tasks and general duties. In 2007 Bridget became the main person undertaking funding applications, presenting the CCC’s achievements, supporting the CEO and compiling the criteria evidence for BACP. Bridget was largely responsible for a number of successful funding grants, awards, submissions and the recent submission of the accreditation application of all CCC services. Bridget was a very valuable, reliable and committed member of staff who is already much missed. We wish her all the best in Leamington Spa!
