The City Counselling Centre welcomes Neil Atkinson

The City Counselling Centre welcomes Neil Atkinson to the post of PCT Counselling Co-Ordinator at the CCC. Neil joins us from Milton Keynes Council where his role was Drug & Alcohol Reduction Co-Ordinator.
An experienced Counsellor himself, Neil has expertise in areas around Domestic & Sexual Violence and the work done by Safer MK. Neil takes charge of the busy, successful and prestigious PCT Counselling Service at the CCC. |
City Counselling Charity Wins National Recognition for Excellence in Practice
The Milton Keynes City Counselling Centre (CCC), a small local charity based in the City centre, has received national recognition from its accrediting body, the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP). At the BACP's Annual Conference on 9th October in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the CCC was presented with the 2009 Excellence in Practice Award for its work in providing an easily accessed, free counselling service to the population of Milton Keynes.
The BACP states that this award “aims to reward excellence and high standards in counselling and psychotherapy practice”. It also rewards projects that have helped more people get access to counselling therapy and shown how effectively it can improve their quality of life. View article in full
People's Voices
The City Counselling Centre is delighted to announce that it has agreed an arrangement with People's Voices to provide emotional support to its workers. People's Voices in Milton Keynes runs advocacy services for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and sensory impairments, people using mental health services (including the Independent Mental Health Advocacy service), and older people.
People's Voices also runs the Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy service and a mental health user development project. People's Voices workers will have access to face-to-face confidential emotional support by arrangement with the CCC. .
Much needed new Funding
We have just received another generous grant from Broughton Ecclesiastical Charity, which will enable us to buy a new laptop computer for our new Operational Manager Martin Crook . This is the third year running that Broughton Ecclesiastiacl Charity have made a donation to the Centre and we have previously been able to buy a much used water boiler for our kitchen and play items for the Children who have received counselling through our CHATS service. We are extremely grateful for their continuing support to the Centre and the clients that we see.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)2008 Awards
The City Counselling Centre has received a "Highly Commended" award from the BACP in the category of 'Innovation & Counselling and Psychotherapy. The certificate reads:
"City Counselling Centre and its Drop-In service has been highly commended by the judging panel in the catergory of 'Innovation in Counselling And Psychotherapy"
New Service to Launch
HIV Counselling Service
This service has been run from the CCC for 2 years, operating within the Carers service; however we have now decided to make it a seperate service. Ela Gordon Head will co-ordinate this new service and a leaflet will be available at the specialist HIV clinic and shortly in a downloadable format on this website

Quiz Night Fundraiser 2009
We had a great evening at the last quiz night arranged by Amanda and her husband with help from Paula, Bill and Carolyn’s husband. A profit of £264 was made and this will go to the CCC Counselling Service which provides low cost counselling (£10 per session) for those not eligible for the PCT Service. Thank you to everyone who contributed and came..
