The CCC was established in 1992 and relies heavily on volunteers for both counselling and welcoming (reception) duties. It currently has 40 volunteer welcomers, 40 volunteer counsellors and the equivalent of 3/5 full-time paid staff. Between them, staff and volunteers keep the CCC open from 9.00 am to 9.30 pm Monday to Thursday, and from 9.00 am to 4.30pm on Fridays.
Our Aims:
The City Counselling Centre aims to provide:
Opportunities for counselling and/or support to help relieve the need, hardship or distress caused by mental or physical ill-health or by social or economic circumstances amongst the people of Milton Keynes and surrounding district.
A central source of information on other sources of support and counselling available in the area
Eligibility
Anyone in the Milton Keynes area is eligible for assistance in the light of their particular needs, regardless of creed, sex, marital status, race, colour, nationality, disability, age or sexual preference. Funding
The City Counselling Centre is a registered charity. It depends entirely for its funding on grants from Milton Keynes Council and the Milton Keynes Community Foundation, and other grants and donations.
Since September 2007, the CCC has been participating in a pilot project funded
by MK Primary Care Trust to provide counselling services to adults in MK referred
by their GPs. The pilot is providing additional services over and above those
already run by the CCC, whose team of 22 professionally-qualified volunteer
counsellors have gained a wide range of experience and expertise in the 15 years
that the Centre has been running
